Counselling Services
It is normal to feel overwhelmed and anxious after a cancer diagnosis. Between 35-45% of all cancer patients will experience significant anxiety or depression at some point during their cancer journey. Studies have shown that patients with bladder cancer are particularly at risk, with individuals experiencing symptoms of depression and/or anxiety ranging from 5% to 23% before bladder removal, and from 5% to nearly 80% post-cystectomy.
Having practical and emotional support before, during and after the diagnosis and treatment of bladder cancer is important. Group discussions, such as those in peer support group, have been shown to ease the psychological impact of cancer. They can improve self-awareness, reduced symptoms, and enhance communication skills.
Counselling can support those who might otherwise suffer in silence. If you feel overwhelmed by your or your partner’s bladder cancer diagnosis or treatment, the BCSC Program offers professional counselling services. We offer complimentary, private, and confidential clinic appointments for patients with bladder cancer and their spouses or partners through our clinical counselor.
If you would like to book a clinical appointment, please contact the program assistant.
